Clerkenwell Design Week 2017: Inspirations from the Showrooms

Following on from our analysis of this year's key trends at Clerkenwell Design Week, we wanted to delve a little deeper into some of the event's showrooms.

While wandering around the rest of Clerkenwell, the dominating colour palettes continued to show the development of the non gender specific style and movement with backdrops of muted pinks used to highlight certain products, combined with deep browns and greys, rich greens and blues, and just a dash of black here and there.

Studio Custhom and &NEW's Modern Lux exhibition focused on the "ideals of modern luxury and exposed the process of making".

The setting for the show was doused in natural light, which streamed in through large windows that created a stunning backdrop to the Colourplay dinning tables. The focus on clean lines really stood out with the backdrop of white-washed bricks and the dark natural timber floor.

Custhom's use of muted hues with monochrome shades worked well in the space, creating a combination of new versus old. The Custhom wallpaper explores the integration of colour and simple geometric form, allowing the natural light to play with tones and texture.

A particular highlight was the stunning roof terrace which combined traditional architecture with contemporary structure additions, such as a glass stairwell covering. The views of Clerkenwell were also a treat.

But it wasn't just the array of products on show that inspired us; we also loved the spaces and venues that you could visit, from prisons and churches to nightclubs and townhouses.

These backdrops only added to the intrigue, atmosphere and depth of the festival. Two showrooms in particular that caught our eye, for their interesting use of space, were deVOL Kitchens and the collaborative exhibition called Modern Lux by Studio Custhom and &NEW.

deVOL opened up a stunning historic townhouse where you could explore each story of the property with installations in each room. It really highlighted the trends of craftmanship and artisan influences.

The whole building exuded a sense of homeliness with its welcoming mix of rich deep hues of green combined with lighter colours such as muted pinks and blues.
