Following our designers, Amy and Maria, setting a creative brief for students of Staffordshire University back in February, we now welcome the winner to our factory for a work experience placement.
Our Design Team awarded Sarah Craggs top prize for her innovative response to the Johnson Tiles creative brief.
The group of budding designers were asked to create a collection of wall tile designs, to suit either the residential or contract market.
Undertaken over a six-week period, the students were encouraged to get out and about, to explore and research the latest trends, in order to develop their ideas through experimentation distilled into their own, unique style.
Although it proved a tough decision, Sarah was chosen as she “displayed a high standard throughout her work, resulting in a highly commercial tile collection. With an intriguing theme of ‘new vintage’, she explored glass-cut patterns to create her designs, using on-trend soft tones.”
During her week at Johnson Tiles, shadowing our designer Maria, Sarah focused on a nature-inspired theme, juxtaposed against the urban environment.
From the natural patterns you pass throughout the day to urban and man-made shapes, her colour palette is inspired by the current trend of earthy hues with warm greys and rustic tones.
We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Sarah over the course of the week, and can’t wait to see where she takes her collection next.
