Johnson Tiles awards New Designers Associate Prize (Part One) to Danielle Wyatt

Her colour palette is also inspired by sound, with the colours reflecting different moods triggered by music. Orange tones symbolise up-tempo rhythms, while the darker, more muted hues capture the feelings induced by mellow beats.

The Cymatics collection is designed for SS16/17, and is ideal for contemporary, interior spaces. As part of her prize, Danielle receives £500 and a two-week work placement with Johnson Tiles’ Creative Team.

Danielle’s process begins with a salt mixture being applied directly to some sound plates. The various frequencies create unique patterns, which are then photographed for further development before being introduced to textile.

In her work, Danielle explores both new and old technologies; music is combined with traditional screen-printing processes, and is interpreted through materials such as glass, fabric and paper.
