Design Team: Design Junction – NYCxDESIGN

Trends

The trend of designers combining different materials together was noted throughout, from marble to block colours juxtaposed against wood. This created a sleek contrast in both appearance and surface.

One company, Aara, did exactly this, with a series of contemporary tables.

Another brand that caught our eye was AG-F, showcasing a series of chairs, which combined contrasting materials.

Pattern

Subtle geometric pattern was seen on fabrics throughout the space, mostly with a distressed appearance.

One brand in particular, Bokara, showcased a selection of distressed rugs in muted tones, picking up on the subtle geometric shapes with contemporary colours.

Colour

Deep muted and pastel tones were spotted frequently, with mustard yellow and pink being particularly prominent. Mostly used as accents to neutral colours, this palette complemented materials such as wood and marble.

Lota showcased muted and pastel colour grouping, whilst boasting traditional crochet techniques across various interior products. We thought this was a great way of combining heritage techniques with new, contemporary colours.

This year’s Design Junction (13-15 May 2016) took place at the warehouse-style Artbeam, perfectly setting the scene for the exciting and cutting-edge designs displayed in the fields of lighting, furniture and fabrics.
