Johnson Tiles sponsors the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award at London Design Festival

London Design Festival will this year mark a decade of celebrating the achievements of designers who are making, or who have made, a significant difference to our lives through their innovation, originality and imagination.

Designers and architects such as the late Dame Zaha Hadid, Marc Newson, Thomas Heatherwick and Peter Saville have been among the winners of the highly acclaimed London Design Medal, while in recent years other categories have been added to recognise four different designers, each renowned in their own fields.

This year, we’re proud to announce that we will be supporting the Lifetime Achievement Medal, which honours an individual who has made significant and fundamental contributions to the design industry during their career. Previous winners include Sir Ken Adam, Richard Rogers, Sir Terence Conran and Vidal Sassoon.

Given that we are celebrating a significant milestone of our own throughout 2016 – our 115-year anniversary as a leading manufacturer in the heart of the Potteries – we are truly humbled to be involved with such a respected, international ceremony that has become an essential on the design industry calendar.

The London Design Festival will present an exhibition showcasing work by the winners if the British Land Celebration of Design within a purpose-built pavilion in Exchange Square at Broadgate. And to mark the 10-year anniversary of the medal, there will also be an exhibition of retrospective winners within the Shoreditch Design Triangle District.

For 2016 the award winners have again been chosen by an illustrious selection board of industry figures, established designers and previous winners including Dr Martin Roth (Director of V&A), Paul Thompson of the Royal College of Art, Justine Simons, Head of Culture, Mayor of London, and Tony Chambers – Editor-in-Chief of Wallpaper magazine.

The awards ceremony will take place in the new Switch House extension at Tate Modern on Tuesday 20 September. Watch this space for further updates.
