Clerkenwell Design Week 2015: Day One

Copper remains a key area for accents and accessorises creating interesting contrasts when grouped with other materials, such as wood or marble, and even colours too.

Marble was seen in abundance on worktop surfaces, lighting and coffee tables. Carrara is a popular choice, mixing marble with wood to create a nice surface contrast with the different materials.

Again, muted pastels were a popular trend across furniture, used as accents and with slightly different tones working together to create depth and texture.

Strong colours were a continuous theme across many of the stands. Key colour groups were plum/burgundy and midnight blues against soft contrasts of putty pink. This trend is set to continue in the interiors and fashion industries for 2015.

Elsewhere at Design Factory, statement lighting really made an impact this year – from bespoke hand made pieces to more commercial pieces.

Ted Wood displayed tiles from our Kerastar range on the floor, which was a nice contrast from the smooth concrete to the natural wood furniture.

Dead Good showcased its furniture in colour themes and incorporated the tones using Prismatics tiles in a selection of colours for its backdrop, with beautiful use of styling and colour grouping.

This year’s festival has seen a record number of exhibitors and attendees, making it the biggest show to date. Our Design Team has been out and about, seeking out the key trends from established and fledging designers and brands alike.

Many of the exhibitors at the Design Factory continued the industrial theme in their exhibits – from furniture to fabrics and lighting.

At the entrance to the Design Factory is The Shed, which this year carries a ‘made in Britain’ theme. Johnson Tiles’ stand welcomes visitors alongside other British companies, and Johnson Tiles products – Prismatics and Kerastar, are also showcased as backdrops to Dead Good and Ted Wood’s exhibition stands.
