Johnson Tiles supports new talent at this year’s British Ceramics Biennial

He has created the Johnson Tiles Pavilion, demonstrating the versatility offered by our innovative Artile technology, where artwork and images are printed directly onto the tiles.

His designs have been printed onto 600x300mm Artiles using our Pictocer unit, with visitors able to closely inspect the tiles and enjoy projections showcasing the history and heritage of ceramics in the area. He also chose 500x300mm tiles from our Zeppelin range and incorporated them onto the back of the pavilion.

A striking new addition to this year’s festival is the introduction of a series of pavilions, a tradition often seen at art biennials around the globe. Four have been built within the China Hall at the Spode site, temporary spaces in which visitors can engage directly with the artists’ work. Each structure has been designed by artists undertaking Artist into Industry residencies, including our very own Simeon Featherstone who is enjoying a placement with Johnson Tiles.

We’re very proud of the technology developed for printing onto Artiles, but just as proud to see the exciting designs that Simeon has produced. This year’s British Ceramics Biennial is a fantastic celebration of artistic talent within the ceramics industry so make sure you visit while you still can.

The British Ceramics Biennial 2013 runs until November 10 in Stoke-on-Trent. For more information visit www.britishceramicsbiennial.com.

A total of 22 artists have been chosen to exhibit this year, with one winner to be chosen to receive a £10,000 prize. The AWARD exhibition is free to enter and a great chance to see some of the most innovative work currently being produced.

As a keen supporter of new talent in the industry, we have produced an individual 600x300mm exhibit tile to accompany each artist’s work at FRESH, which takes place at the original Spode factory site.

Exhibit tiles have also been produced to accompany each entry for the AWARD 2013 exhibition, one of the real showpiece attractions of the entire festival. AWARD aims to unite the leading figures in today’s contemporary ceramics fields, from design to manufacture.

We are particularly excited to be involved in three sections of the festival that really help to promote emerging artists.

FRESH is an exhibition of work from ceramics graduates, giving more than 30 talented artists the chance to showcase their work across a range of disciplines including pottery, sculpture and installation, as well as tableware and industrial design.

The six-week showcase runs until November 10 in Stoke-on-Trent, the beating heart of Britain’s ceramics industry. The biennial celebration, first launched in 2009, showcases work from new and established contemporary ceramic artists from the UK and abroad, with exhibitions and events taking place throughout the city.

Once again we’re proud to be playing a key role in this year’s festival, which serves as a fantastic platform for some of the brightest new talent in the ceramics industry, as well as showcasing the rich variety of work that can be produced with this diverse medium.

The British Ceramics Biennial is in full flow for 2013, having made a welcome return to the Potteries for a third time.
