Spotlight on 100% Design 2013

We also loved the Farm Kitchen – a hub that explored the integration of micro-agriculture in the kitchen. It’s where designers were trying to find new ways to best use limited space available and generate farm produce in urban environments. On display were modern planters with hidden hydroponics, highly innovative LED lamps for growing vegetables, herbs and flowers – and even food, fuel and water recycling systems.

The 3D Home Factory explored the potential of 3D printing and showcased the best interior products. What was especially spooky was the chance to walk away with a 3D printed model of yourself, as demonstrated by iMakr – Europe’s largest 3D printing store.

Elsewhere, our design and sales teams enjoyed exploring the rest of 100% Design to discover new trends and innovations. The ‘Emerging Design’ area was inspiring as always. We enjoyed seeing the London Cube Co, VM Design, Charlotte Arvidsson, Leala Dymond and Kristjana S Williams.

Material Lab’s ‘Material Atelier’ was also a huge success. A separate space in the Eco, Design & Build zone of 100% Design, it was a creative workshop area featuring workbenches and vibrant open spaces – mirroring the actual Material Lab studio to allow people to explore and learn about the different materials on display.

Another 100% Design has been and gone, and we’ve been reflecting on one of the biggest and best design festivals to grace the architect and design community this year.

For us at Johnson Tiles, we had a stand through our Material Lab design resource studio in London where we exclusively launched six new product ranges: Mode, Modern, Savoy, Natural Tones, Chroma and Absolute.

The stand featured a ‘deconstructed’ interior environment showing off essential surfaces in their natural light. Feedback from the show was extremely positive with a record number of enquiries and sample requests.
