Round-up of Design Shows, Autumn 2014

September is fast approaching, which means that design season is almost upon us. With so many events shoe-horned into one month, planning is most certainly required to ensure that you get the most out of the season. And so, with that in mind, here is our guide to some of the must-see shows:

The London Design Festival (13-21 September)

Now in its 11th year, The London Design Festival has established itself as a major player on the art and design festival-scene. This year’s instalment promises to be yet another exciting array of exhibitions from both up-and-coming designers and leading names in the A&D community, with a total of over 300 events dotted throughout London.

Must-see exhibits include A Place Called Home, the Landmark Project in Trafalgar Square by Airbnb, and Precision and Poetry in Motion by BMW and designers Edward Barder and Jay Osgerby, at the V&A’s Raphael Gallery.

As part of the festival, we will be working in partnership with London design studio David David to present a 50 sq m tile mural inspired by Islamic geometrics and traditional British design inside the Exhibition Road tunnel entrance to the V&A.

100% Design (17-20 September)

Having been around since 1995, 100% Design is a pillar of the UK design industry. First held in a tent off the Kings Road, the show has gone on to thrive and expand whilst attracting the biggest names alongside the freshest faces on the scene. From Tom Dixon to David Chipperfield, this year’s exhibitors are sure to live up to the high expectations of the four-day event at Earls Court, London.

This year, Philippe Starck will be opening the show to coincide with the launch of his Flexible Architecture project. Other exhibitors to note include Studio Job, Amu and Dar Leone. With the variety of designers at September’s event, this year’s theme being The Design Kaleidoscope seems very fitting indeed.

designjunction (18-21 September)

Showcasing the very best in furniture, lighting and product design on an international scale, designjunction is a must-visit event for anyone with a penchant for creativity. During the London Design Festival, designjunction takes over The Sorting Office, located in central London.

Presenting a selection of international brands, cutting-edge designers and brands alike, it promises to be the much-needed alternative to the traditional trade show.

TENT London (18-21 September)

Tent London is the thought-provoking design show held at Brick Lane’s Old Truman Brewery during The London Design Festival. With an emphasis on contemporary design, the brands on show at this particular venue offer something a little different to the others.

This year expect to see bold, colourful geometric pattern, traditional ceramics with an artistic twist and 3D printing. The exhibitor list includes some of the hottest new designers to emerge into the industry, and for that reason it is a must for those seeking a fresh dose of inspiration.

Super Brands (18-21 September)

The Super Brands exhibition is also held at the Old Truman Brewery during The London Design Festival. The difference in exhibitor list from that of Tent London, is that the Super Brands participants are slightly more traditional in their approach to design. Leading wallpaper brand Graham & Brown, MG Motor UK and furniture company BoConcept are among the heritage brands on show at this year’s offering.
