Behind-the-scenes at our Design Team’s visit to Staffordshire University

As part of the creative design brief set for the students of Staffordshire University, our Design Team paid a visit to the college this week to check out what the budding surface pattern designers have produced so far.

Rebecca Rawlins: Looking at nature and leaf textures through screen printing & metallic effects

Tasked with creating a collection of wall tile designs, to suit either the residential or contract market, the surface design students have been exploring the latest trends to help develop their unique ideas.

Johnson Tiles' designers, Amy and Maria, were both hugely impressed with the work so far, particularly as it's only been three weeks since the project brief was set. Here, we share a sneak peek of the work in progress…

Hope William: Exploring geometric shapes and embossing techniques using soft, chalky tones
Rebecca Gennard: Looking at textures and layering up abstract wave patterns
Natalie Willacy: Exploring linear geometric patterns with soft, muted tones
Francesca Hoyle: Exploring ink and water patterns in smoky grey/blue tones
