Design Team: London Design Fair & Design Junction 2016

Following the Design Team’s visit to FOCUS/16, next up was the London Design Fair (22-25 September). This year marked the event’s tenth anniversary, which it celebrated through showcasing 500 exhibitors from 29 countries, in the creative heart of east London.

Design Junction

This year’s Design Junction (22-25 September), in partnership with University of the Arts London, has moved to a new and exciting home in London’s bustling King’s Cross.

The vibrant location is set to become a new creative district and an international business platform for design in central London, where culture and commerce will meet to become the key hub of the London Design Festival.

Over 200 contemporary brands and independent designers showcased new collections this year, from furniture, accessories, textiles, stationary and ceramics, to Light Junction – an area solely dedicated to contemporary lighting.

Rusty and metallic finishes were spotted on various products throughout, conveying a weathered and worn appearance – in keeping with the current urban trend.

Various colour groupings were noted throughout the show, with muted hues most popular. Grey remained key for brands when opting for a neutral palette.

Geometrics continued to be the favoured pattern trend across fabrics, furniture and ceramics, with triangles being most popular.

Colour trends were echoed from Tent and Super Brands, with muted hues most prominent throughout, contrasted against dark rich tones used as accents.

Lighting played a huge part in the exhibition, through captivating installations and trend-led designs.

Continuing the geometric theme from Tent, angular pattern was spotted in abundance across the show, creating bold statements through the use of colour and captivating structures.

A fantastic platform to discover innovative and contemporary designs across a variety of independent designers, Tent attracts a wealth of established, international brands, alongside new talent.

One particular trend that caught the eye of our Design Team was the handcrafted approach to marbling, alongside inky effects, utilising neutral tones combined with bright fluorescent/neon colours.
