Johnson Tiles supports Morecambe mosaics

We’re proud to have supplied the tiles for yet another project of Manchester’s beloved Mosaicist, Mark Kennedy. His portfolio includes a number of acclaimed pieces that can be seen throughout Manchester’s Northern Quarter and the wider city centre.

Mark’s latest project, part of the Victoria Street press art initiative, comprises a collection of large-scale mosaics, which use colourful tiles from our Prismatics range, to celebrate three celebrities associated with the Lancashire town – Eric Morecambe, Laurence Olivier and Thora Hird. The portraits are part of a series of artistic displays along the buildings of Victoria Street.

These artworks were showcased on 30th July as part of a wider ‘Street pARTy’ festival, organised and funded by Deco Publique, Portas Pilot Project and the Arts Council England, to mark new art on Victoria Street, and the changing face of Morecambe town centre.

Last year, we provided tiles from our iconic Prismatics range for Kennedy’s mosaic of Floyd Mayweather, which went up for auction at a Vegas Fight Night charity event.

Visitors to the festival were able to take away their own artwork, as Mark (in addition to other artists) ran free workshops on the day. Live music, performance and buskers also accompanied the workshops.
