Bruce McLean: One Hundred Plates & Out of Stoke

Last September, we joined forces with artist Bruce McLean to produce a backdrop ‘tile art’ piece for the British Ceramics Biennial, which celebrated the heritage of the Potteries.

From 30 July – 11 September, The New Art Centre will play host to the colourful panels, alongside McLean’s ‘one hundred plates’. And from 4 – 27 August, the Contemporary Ceramics Centre will present the work in an exhibition entitled, Out of Stoke.

In recent years, ceramics have played an increasingly important role in McLean’s practice – alongside his work in the mediums of performance, sculpture, installation, public art, painting, printmaking, drawing, photography and film.

The exhibitions once again prove testament to the artist’s extensive wealth of skill. This is the first time McLean’s ceramics have been exhibited on a large scale, and each piece is entirely unique in its design.

The work, entitled Set in Stoke, was made up of six designed tile panels, inspired by the British ceramics industry and using a palette of seven colours from our iconic Prismatics range. Harry Foster, our Specialist Products Business Manager, said: “This collaboration really demonstrates our eagerness to innovate and push creative boundaries like never before.”

In two upcoming exhibitions, the tiles will once again be on display in a series of specially commissioned frames.
