Aboriginal artwork ceramic tiles to be unveiled at Material Lab

The tiles – including Bush Onion and Emu Dreaming – feature a selection of works by Aboriginal artists Geraldine Nangala Gallagher and Sarah Napurrula White, who come from a remote Aboriginal community in Yuendumu in Australia’s Northern Territory.

Through our advanced Artile printing technology, we were able to create every tiny detail of the artwork, as the process involves the painstaking reproduction of any illustration, drawing or picture on to a tile with no loss of detail or colour.

The quality of the reproduction was especially crucial to this particular project, given that each image and colour has special meaning and spiritual importance to the Aboriginal people and culture.

The My Country tile launch will take place at Material Lab, 10 Great Titchfield Street, London, on Wednesday 29 June.  Samples can be viewed at the studio between 3pm and 5pm, and from 6pm until 8pm Alexandra O’Brien will provide a brief history of the project.

Last year we supported Alexandra O’Brien, owner of Cotswolds-based Bay Gallery Home with her project My Country, which sought to reproduce Aboriginal art on to ceramic tile. Thanks to our expert Artile service, we were able to ensure the ambitious project came to fruition in the most successful way possible.

On 29 June 2016, Material Lab is hosting a launch event for the collection, which marks the world’s first set of Aboriginal artwork ceramic tiles ever to be produced.
