The Crafted City pavilion unveiled at London Craft Week

The Crafted City pavilion, a unique temporary arts space decorated with porcelain tiles, has been unveiled in London as part of the inaugural London Craft Week.

Visitors to London Craft Week were invited inside the tiled mural pavilion, to participate in discussion and activities with makers. There were demonstrations across everything from hot glass blowing to pottery creation, with craftsmen including leatherwork and bookbinding artist Tracey Rowledge, metal artist John Creed, glass artists Michael Ruh and Helen Slater, and wood furniture artists Alex MacDonald and Ray Key, among others.

Designed by architects Allies & Morrison and built by Supershop, the pavilion itself was constructed from a series of plywood boxes arranged in a triangular pattern. It offered a space for a number of talented craftsmen to show off their skills, celebrating London’s proud heritage and the rich history of craft. It will remain in place on a walkway just behind the CAA Gallery and Allies & Morrison architectural offices in Southwark over the coming weeks.

A selection of the beautifully decorated porcelain tiles will continue to be offered for sale in the CAA gallery after London Craft Week closes this weekend.

Original watercolour prints by Daphne Carnegy

The blue and white tiles adorning the structure were produced in our Stoke-on-Trent factory, decorated with reproductions of beautiful watercolours by ceramic artist Daphne Carnegy. Our bespoke Artile printing service allowed us to digitally transfer the original watercolours onto porcelain.

The pavilion was conceived by Contemporary Applied Arts to act as a hub throughout the event, inspiring visitors and makers alike.
