Bricking It

The way your tiles are fixed has a big effect on the overall style of the room.  Tiles don't have to be fixed in line with one another, fixing in a ‘brick bond' fashion can be an effective way of changing the look of a room.  Simply ensure that the grout lines of every alternate row of tiles falls exactly half way between the grout lines of the previous row – a similar pattern that you see when looking at the bricks of a house.

For an easy to achieve brick-bond, choose ‘Brick Mosaic tiles' which are made of real marble and are available in sheets of 305mmX305mm with the individual tiles sized 100x50mm. You could also try fixing tiles at an angle to create a chequerboard pattern – it works equally well on a whole wall or on isolated areas like splash backs.
